whats the difference between a counseling psychologist and a mental health counselor?
Lauren asked:
I read that counseling psychologists make twice as much as mental health counselors. Also…..to become a counseling psychologist, do you just need bachelors and masters degrees? i dont think you need a Phd unless you become a clinical psychologist. There is also something called a Psy.D(doctor of psychology)….if I want to become a counseling psych. who works in their own practice, do i need the Psy.D? thanks, there is so much info. to find out! also, please don’t guess, only answer if you know for sure about what you are saying.
well i read that a counseling psychologist work with people(i prefer to work with children) on more typical problems instead of what a clinical psychologist does, which is helping wih more severe problems.
im in california but i dont know the rules in this state

I am a Cerified Alcohol Drug Counselor. I need to earn extra income and I have a job. Can you help?
Smartzilla asked:
I have a full-time job, I am a licensed IAODAPCA counselor, I am Hispanic and I speak fluent Spanish & English. I have 25 years experience in this field and can complete court and detail oriented Secretary of State evaluations, that require a chronological drink/drug use history. I am also very good in addressing Sec. of State Orders of denial, I know how to do treatment needs assessments, treatment updates, clinical diagnostic reviews, continuing care status reports and with my certification I also do outpatient treatment which I am really trying to avoid. I live on the Northside of Chicago, but I do drive. Only serious responses please, leave your email address for a response. Please remember I’m only looking for a few hours out of the week.

Can I get a government job after being diagnosed with clinical depression?
Allison asked:
I’ve worked for the National Park Service now for three summers and will probably for at least another two before I finish college. I’m a recreation and tourism major and I would like to stay with the agency. Unfortunately, I have stress and anxiety issues. After seeing a counselor for several years; I’m finally going to an actual therapist to be evaluated whether or not I need to be put on medication (obviously it’s going to be a “yes” if I’m being referred by my counselor).
I guess technically clinical depression is considered a disability and of course it’s an illness. Will this hurt my chances of getting a government job; or any other job for that manner? The park has no idea that I have this problem. I’ve been very productive for them and I’ve gotten an award after each season that I’ve worked for them. I’ve tried to beat this without meds, but this isn’t working—I’m going to have to see the therapist. I’m not looking forward to being diagnosed with clinical depression and have that on my medical record. I’m productive now as it is; if I could get this under control I’d be ever more productive and successful. Yes, things are difficult; but this doesn’t interfere with my work ability. I work through it.
Do you think being diagnosed with depression (and most likely other anxiety disorders) will affect my chances of getting a job? Can employers use this as a reason either up-front or disguised) (not to hire someone?

Am I good enough to get into a clinical psyc program for a M.A?
dejectedmarlboro27 asked:
I hear it is competitive. It’s a little intimidating, but how good you need to be? Here’s what I got:
Active Duty Air Force experience as an Electronic Warfare Technician - Honorably Discharge as an Senior Airman E-4
Two years stationed in Germany; I had a lot of achievements, leadership experience, a few small awards, finished training in 2/3 normal time, etc.
I just got into my senior year at a fair college, University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Major in Psychology/minor in Biology
I should finish with about a 3.4 GPA and in only three years.
I am a counselor in training at a halfway house, working on a Addictions Counselor licence. I’ve clocked a lot of hours and should have the licence by the time I get my B.A.. I study, do charting, observe and assist in one on one sessions and will soon have my own patient.
I am multi-talented. I play piano, bass, sing, write.
I worry about my GPA but I hope this other stuff will make a difference, will it?
