If you are a counselor or study psychology-PLEASE help me?
JaSLeNe x0×0 asked:
I am going to school next year to study social work, and eventually be a clinical sw because i want to be a therapist. work in a practice or even in a school counseling center.
Heres my problem and it may sound stupid-but here goes:
when i get nervous, I get really gassy, and my stomach makes weird noises and i feel like i have to fart.
I am afraid that when i start my fieldwork and eventually become a counselor, I will feel nervous, and sitting with someone, my body will make these noises. I dont understand because i dont feel nervous, but my body does, if that makes sense.
How can I calm myself down so I can just sit comfortably?

Maybe join a yoga class so you can relax there, so when your sitting down and need to be calm you can re-create that relaxed feeling.
One thing you will learn with experience is that the more you do something the more comfortable you will become. I used to be very nervous talking in front of a crowd but when I was taking classes it became easier and easier the more I did it. One more thing you will learn is that when you are talking about something you know about the easier it is; that being said-it will not be so difficult for you once you start practicing your art. I hope this makes sense-good luck.
let’s just say this: while going thru your training and learning at schools of higher learning , you will pick up new perspectives on how to deal with issues and situations…particularly problems and isssues about dealing with human interaction. think of it like this; your higher learning exp in college, from the people you meet, to the subject matter you deal with, may very well instill you with…”a new attitude”. What ever underlying causes of your anxiety are, may surface, when you apply what you study to your own personal life. In your course work, you will do a lot of role-playing, to make sure you understand the concepts and the behavior you would use in the field..
this may sound weird, but what i’m trying to say is this; this ‘new” person inside you, that you’re training to be a social worker, may push aside the “old” person, who was unsure and nervous.; as your learning and experience increase, the less likely it will be that your anxiety, and your flatulence, will be a problem.
The things you find to be nerve-racking now, will be small potatoes soon; as your knowledge increases, as your experiences increase, so will your confidence.
Ignorance breeds fear. The more you know and do, the better you’ll feel in the future. You feel no different now, than a military recruit just inducted; once they go thru training and active duty, they feel like they’re all that after that…all the confidence in the world…
good luck!!

Humans have a fight or flight mechanism and the body gets prepared for these events by gorging the brain with blood and less in he stomach to digest any ingredients. Also the hormonal system gets an load of chemicals. I’m in a doubt you are telling the actual story, you would have to digest food to equip yourself with gas out-letting! or to produce a thing called a “crepatus.” (fart..is a euphemistic word).
